WBC champ Wilder returns against unbeaten Washington (The Associated Press)

FILE - In this July 16, 2016, file photo, Deontay Wilder, left, throws a left at Chris Arreola during the WBC heavyweight title boxing bout in Birmingham, Ala. Wilder will not do much to advance his claim to the heavyweight crown Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, when he defends his title against Gerald Washington, a fighter so unknown that even Wilder found it difficult to say much about him. Deontay Wilder is trying to emulate Larry Holmes, both in becoming the world's dominant heavyweight champion and in cultivating a pinpoint left jab while sidelined by a right hand injury. Washington is a 34-year-old former Southern California tight end and defensive end. The 31-year-old Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) is making his fifth title defense and fourth in Birmingham, about an hour from his Tuscaloosa hometown.
