Coach Billy Walsh brought a lifetime of amateur boxing experience from his native Ireland when he took over at foundering USA Boxing late last year. When he tried to impose that knowledge on Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields, they nearly tore apart the program before finding mutual respect on their way to Rio de Janeiro.(Ryan Jones/The Gazette via AP, File)

Claressa Shields won a gold medal as the most dominant fighter in London at the first Olympic women's boxing tournament. ''Oh, we clashed heads quite a bit in the first few months,'' Billy Walsh said with a grin. Shields also smiles at the memory of her introduction to Walsh, the respected amateur coach who took over the U.S. boxing team late last year.
